How to play Snake

You steer a snake around a 20 by 20 board and eat the pink orbs. Every orb adds one segment to your body, so the board gets tighter the longer you last.

The run ends when you hit the glowing wall or run into your own body. Moving into the cell your tail is just leaving is safe, so tight loops are allowed.

How scoring works in Snake

A pink orb is worth 10 points. Every so often a golden orb pops up with a timer ring and stays for 5 seconds. Reach it within the first second, while the ring is still full, for 50 points. After that it loses 5 points every half second as the ring runs out, but it is never worth less than 10.

The snake speeds up a little with every segment. It starts at about 7 moves per second and creeps toward 15 once it gets really long.

Snake tips for a high score

Hug the edges early and sweep the board in rows. That way your body leaves big open areas instead of small pockets you can never get out of.

Only chase a golden orb when the path is clear. 50 points is nice, but a rushed turn into your own tail ends the whole run.

You can press two turns back to back, like up then left, and the game remembers both. That is how you pull off tight U-turns at full speed.

Can you play Snake on your phone?

Yes. Swipe in the direction you want to go, even a short flick works, or tap the board on the side you want the head to turn to. When the snake moves sideways, tap above or below the head. When it moves up or down, tap to its left or right.

The game pauses by itself when you switch apps or tabs. When you resume, a quick 3, 2, 1 countdown gives you a moment to see the board, or you can swipe right away to go. Your best score stays saved on your device.
