Best Abilities and Skills to Equip in FF Resonance

In Final Fantasy Resonance, a character keeps every ability they learn from a Vision and can equip it later if the AP fits. These are the ones worth the points.
  • Arms Akimbo from Firion at Mastery Rank 9 is the best ability in the game for every role.
  • Half MP Cost from Tronn keeps spell-heavy builds running without Ethers.
  • Magic Barrage from Y’shtola plus Dualcast and Arms Akimbo can fire up to 16 spells in one turn.
  • With Multi-Cover, Guard and counters, Rain soaks every hit and still deals damage.
  • Double Gil from Vaan is the core of any Gil farming setup.

Best All-Around Skills

Start with abilities that help any role. They stay useful when you swap a character's job, which matters for flexible picks like Lid who can go physical or magic.

All-Around Skill Build Sample

  • Arms Akimbo for two actions
  • Half MP Cost to save MP
  • First Strike to move first
  • LB Triple Charge for frequent Limit Bursts

This setup fits any character during the early and middle chapters. Two actions a turn plus a fast LB gauge means you reach your Limit Burst often.

None of these abilities add stats. A character running all four deals a bit less damage or takes a bit more than a role-focused build.

Best Physical Skills

For physical attackers and Breakers, look for more damage and more stagger power. Even pure attackers benefit from stagger, since breaking enemies opens a bonus phase with extra turns.

Skill Spam Build

Best on Lasswell, Lid and Jake.

  • Arms Akimbo
  • Double Action
  • Improvement
  • Perfect Serenity
  • Overwhelm

Double Action stacked on Arms Akimbo fires physical skills several times per turn. Improvement and Perfect Serenity raise the damage, and Overwhelm grows with every hit.

Equip the Bartz Vision on top and his double Spellblades turn this into a burst damage machine.

Critical Spam Build

Best on Lasswell and Jake.

  • Arms Akimbo
  • Spirit of Squall
  • Barrage
  • Critical Boost
  • Overwhelm

Spirit of Squall turns on all of Squall's mastery abilities, Double Action included. Barrage always hits four times, which gives Critical Boost plenty of chances on high attack characters like Jake and Lasswell.

Run it with the Cloud Vision to stack his crit passives on top.

Best Magic Skills

Magic users want damage boosts and abilities that add extra casts. Most of them raise MP costs, so plan your MP recovery at the same time.

Dualcast Barrage Build

Best on Fina, Sakura and Archwitch Fina.

  • Magic Barrage
  • Dualcast
  • Arms Akimbo
  • Skill Flow

Stack Magic Barrage with Dualcast and Arms Akimbo and one turn can fire anywhere from 4 to 16 spells. It burns through MP, so back it up with MP gear, passives or a support.

Pair it with the Terra Vision and Ultima to wipe whole enemy groups at once.

Best Tank Skills

Tanks want taunts, covers and counters, so they take the hits and turn them into damage. Abilities that trigger when you get hit are a bonus, since your tank gets hit the most.

AbilityVisionMRAPWhy take it

Cover Counter Build

Made for Rain as your main tank.

  • Multi-Cover
  • Guard
  • Arms Akimbo
  • Physical Counter
  • Magic Counter
  • Riposte

Multi-Cover pulls every attack onto your tank, and each hit sets off a counter. Arms Akimbo gives Rain room to cast both Guard and Multi-Cover each turn, no support needed.

Counters count as standard attacks, so Trigger and Latent Potential boost them too.

Best Gil Farming Skills

For farming, you want bigger rewards plus sustain so you can keep fighting without items or inn trips.

The Gil farming guide has the best spots to use them.

Best Early Game Abilities

Three cheap combos that work from the first chapters, one for each starting character.

Multi-Cover and Counters for Rain

Raise the Warrior of Light Vision to MR 5 on Rain to get Multi-Cover and Physical Counter. Magic Counter comes from Terra's first awakening or from Cecil later.

In battle, cast Multi-Cover and buff Rain with Protect and Shell. When an enemy uses an AoE, he counters once for every ally he covers, Espers included, for up to five counters.

Stagger Sustain for Lasswell

Restore HP on Stagger and Restore MP on Stagger keep Lasswell healthy every time he breaks a foe. Add Fill LB on Stagger for a faster gauge and Restore MP on Critical Hit for even more MP.

Fast Limit Bursts for Fina

LB Double Charge with Fill Gauge means Fina fires Holy Ray often. It hits every enemy with Light magic and scales with her Sanctity.

Give another party member Pass the Torch and have them hand their turn to Fina when they have nothing better to do.

FAQ

What is the best ability in FF Resonance?

Arms Akimbo. Two actions per turn helps tanks, attackers, mages and supports alike. It comes from Firion at Mastery Rank 9.

Do abilities stay after I unequip a Vision?

Yes for mastery abilities. Once learned, they can be equipped with any Vision if you have the AP. Awakening skills only work while that Vision is equipped.

How do I get more AP for abilities?

Raise Vision Mastery Ranks. Several ranks on every Vision give AP +8 to the character using it.
