FF Resonance Best Party Members: Team Composition by Chapter

Your best party in Final Fantasy Resonance shifts as new members and Visions join. Here is who to field in each chapter and which Vision to hand them.
  • Rain stays in the party all game, first as a Warrior of Light tank, later with cover, Guard and counters.
  • Nichol joins in Chapter 3 and earns a fixed slot from Chapter 4 thanks to his party-wide Formations.
  • Terra is the go-to boss Vision for magic users like Fina, Lid and Sakura.
  • Late game, run Rain and Nichol with two magic attackers built around Arms Akimbo plus Magic Barrage.
  • Lasswell and Jake work best on the bench, ready for fights that call for physical damage.

Best Party in Chapter 1

CharacterVisionParty job
RainWarrior of LightTank and counter hits
LasswellCloudDamage and stagger
FinaLeah, Terra for bossesHealer and magic damage

Rain fits the Warrior of Light Vision because its defensive kit backs up his Provoke. Physical counters let him hit back while enemies are busy with him.

Give Cloud to Lasswell so he wears down Stagger gauges and fills his LB gauge for more Limit Bursts.

Fina heals with Leah during the story. Swap her to Terra for bosses, where Magic Boost turns extra MP into much bigger spells.

Best Party in Chapter 2

CharacterVisionParty job
RainWarrior of Light or NoctisTank, Flame Sword for damage
LasswellCloudDamage and stagger
FinaTronnHealer and status ailments
LidTerraMagic damage

Lid joins this chapter. Hand her the Dreadwing Mallet from the Tablet Shard rewards and pair her with Terra, which adds a magic attack bonus plus Magic Boost.

Fina moves to Tronn. Keep Cure ready, and throw Poison or Blind at bosses that can be hit by them.

Rain and Lasswell keep their Visions. Spend this chapter raising Mastery Ranks so the abilities are ready when fights get harder.

Best Party in Chapter 3

CharacterVisionParty job
RainWarrior of Light or SquallTank, Squall masteries for damage
LasswellCloud or FirionDamage and stagger
FinaTronn, Leah or Onion KnightHealer and utility
LidTerra or TronnMagic damage
Nichol (bench)Leah, Terra or ZidaneSupport and debuffs

Nichol arrives in Chapter 3. His Formations help the whole team, but low HP and physical defense make him fragile, so build him up from the bench first.

Firion is a strong swap for Lasswell against Lightning-weak bosses, and his masteries help you reach Limit Bursts more often.

Once Tronn has a few Mastery Ranks, Lid can move to it for more spells and stagger bonuses.

Best Party in Chapter 4

CharacterVisionParty job
RainCloud or TidusWater damage, tank with buffs
LidTerra or ShantottoMain magic attacker
NicholTerra or ZidaneFormations and buffs
FinaTerra or ShantottoHealer and backup magic
Jake (bench)Cloud or SquallPhysical damage
Lasswell (bench)Cloud or SquallDamage and stagger

Field Rain, Lid, Nichol and Fina. Plenty of Chapter 4 enemies are weak to Water, so give Rain Cloud or Tidus and keep him alive with Nichol's Formations and Protectga.

Lid uses Terra for bosses and Shantotto to clear groups faster. Give Nichol your best armor and accessories to cover his weak defenses.

Jake joins late in the chapter and no boss here is weak to Wind, so bench him and raise his level and Mastery Ranks on the side. Lasswell can replace Fina when you want more damage.

Best Party in Chapter 5

CharacterVisionParty job
RainClive or BartzDamage and stagger
NicholOnion Knight, Y’shtola or VictoriaFormations and magic
SakuraTerra, Onion Knight, Shantotto, Y’shtola or VictoriaMain magic attacker
FinaOnion Knight, Terra or VictoriaBackup magic and heals
LidTerra, Onion Knight, Y’shtola or VictoriaMagic and stagger
Lasswell (bench)Clive or BartzDamage and stagger
Jake (bench)Cloud, Clive or AmeliaPhysical damage

Rain and Nichol belong in every fight. Early Chapter 5 enemies tend to be weak to Fire and later ones to Wind, so swap Rain between Clive and Bartz.

Clive brings Vigorous Staggerer and Power Stagger to raise Rain's stagger output, and its third awakening adds Fire Immunity for fire bosses. Nichol's Formation: Regroup at level 34 buffs the whole party's attack.

Sakura hits hard with magic, but her physical defense is low. Bring her against bosses that mostly cast spells, and fill the last slot with Fina or Lid.

Victoria's MRP bonus makes her a handy Vision while you level others. On the bench, Jake likes Amelia's Aim because it keeps Gamble Shot from missing.

Best Party in Chapter 6

CharacterVisionParty job
RainFirion, Cecil or WilhelmTank with counters
NicholOnion Knight, Y’shtola or AileenFormations and LB support
SakuraTerra or Y’shtolaMagic damage
Archwitch FinaTerra or Y’shtolaMagic damage
Fina and Lid (bench)Terra or Y’shtolaMagic damage
Lasswell (bench)Firion or BartzDamage and stagger
Jake (bench)Firion, Bartz or CloudPhysical damage

Run Rain, Nichol, Sakura and Archwitch Fina. Rain now soaks hits. With Multi-Cover, Guard and Arms Akimbo he takes every attack, and his counters do the damage.

Your mages want Y’shtola's Magic Barrage together with Firion's Arms Akimbo, for a total of eight spells per turn. Against bosses, switch them to a Vision that hits the weakness.

Adamantite weapons can be crafted from this chapter. Sakura's rod Roselia starts her off with Concentrate and Sage's Eye, and Nichol's grimoire Codex Providentiae gives him Tactic: Fluid Warfare when battle begins. See the crafting guide.

Cactuars are a good MRP source here, and the airship shop sells the Adept's Armlet. Use this stretch to fill out Vision abilities for the whole team.

Best Party for the Late Game

CharacterVisionKey abilities
RainCecilArms Akimbo, Guard, Multi-Cover, Observe and Attack, Physical Counter, Riposte
NicholAmeliaAngelic Advocate, Arms Akimbo, Half MP Cost, LB Double Charge, LB Triple Charge, Observe and Charge LB, Pharmacology
SakuraTerraMagic Barrage, Arms Akimbo, Half MP Cost, Critical Hit Rate +20%, Vigorous Attacks, Preemptive Strike, Stealth Specialist
Archwitch FinaSephirothArms Akimbo, Half MP Cost, Magic Barrage, Preemptive Strike, Spirit of Terra, Stealth Specialist, Vigorous Attacks
Lasswell (bench)CamilleAim, Arms Akimbo, Break the Limit, Critical Boost, Double Action, Gut Rip, Half MP Cost, Perfect Serenity

Keep Rain as the tank and Nichol as the buffer, then add two magic attackers. Late battles pay more MRP, and Victoria's MRP Gain +50% speeds up ability farming even more.

With Arms Akimbo, Nichol casts two buffs in one turn, or a buff and a heal. A Power Stone plus LB boosting abilities help him charge Mirroring Prism quickly.

Lasswell makes a strong reserve with crit abilities. He staggers well but takes a few turns to set up, while your mages deal damage right away.

How to Build the Best Team

Pick Your Attacker and Defender

Decide who deals damage and who protects the team, based on each character's own skills. One character who draws hits plus one who heals makes long boss fights far safer.

Compare everyone on the characters page.

Match Visions to Roles

Give defensive Visions to your tank and offensive ones to your damage dealers. The Visions list shows the role and elements of each one.

Mix Abilities Within Your AP

Abilities learned from a Vision can be equipped even when that Vision is not, if the total fits under your AP cap. Raise Mastery Ranks on several Visions to widen your options.

FAQ

Who is the best tank in FF Resonance?

Rain. He gets Provoke at level 6 and grows into a cover and counter tank with abilities from Warrior of Light, Firion, Cecil and Wilhelm.

When does Nichol join the party?

He joins in Chapter 3 when you reach Olderion. Keep him on the bench at first, then field him from Chapter 4 on.

Should I use Lasswell or Jake late in the game?

Both shine as reserves. Keep their Mastery Ranks up for fights that need physical damage, but mages usually deal damage faster.
