How to play Hungry Hole

You control a hole in a big city seen from above. Anything whose centre crosses your rim falls in, as long as it is small enough for your current size. Each round lasts 2 minutes and you share the city with 4 rival holes, so grab what you can before they do.

On a phone, drag your finger anywhere: the spot you touch becomes a virtual stick and the hole follows the direction you pull. On a computer, hold the left mouse button and the hole chases the pointer, or use WASD or the arrow keys. The hole has a bit of inertia and gets a little slower the bigger it grows.

What the hole can eat and when

Your hole starts at size 22. A thing fits if its size is at most 60% of your radius, so at the start you can only take people, street lamps, hydrants, mailboxes, trash cans, benches and bushes. Trees open up at size 25, cars at 34, small houses at 57, big buildings at 94 and towers at 159. The bar at the bottom shows how close you are to the next unlock.

Every swallow adds the thing's size to your score and grows the hole, but growth slows down as you get bigger: a lamp barely moves the needle at size 100 while a building adds a lot. Things near the rim get pulled in, so you do not need to drive exactly over them. Anything too big just sits there while the hole passes under it.

Rival holes, timer and leaderboard

The 4 rival holes hunt for food on their own, run from bigger holes and chase smaller ones. A hole at least 18% bigger than another can swallow it whole and takes part of its mass. If you get swallowed, you are not out: you come back after 3 seconds somewhere else, smaller, but you keep your score. The same rule applies to the rivals.

The timer in the top left counts down from 2:00 and the panel on the right ranks all 5 holes by score live. When time runs out you see your rank, score and best. Finish first and the results card shows a Rank 1 badge.

Tips for a high score in Hungry Hole

Start in parks and residential blocks: sidewalks full of lamps, benches and bushes get you to tree size in a few seconds. Sweep along block edges instead of crossing empty streets. As soon as cars unlock, raid the parking lots, they are the fastest way to house size.

Keep an eye on the leaderboard and the name tags: a rival with a bigger number than yours is dangerous, a smaller one is food. In the last 30 seconds go for the biggest things you can fit, a single building is worth more than a whole street of lamps.

Can you play Hungry Hole on a phone?

Yes. The game runs in the browser with no download and is built for touch: drag anywhere to steer, no buttons needed. The camera zooms out as you grow so you always see what is around you. It pauses by itself when you switch apps or tabs, and your best score is saved on your device.
